A massive and whimsical showcase of 2,000 driving, flying and working
machines takes place April 27 at Half Moon Bay Airport.
The Pacific Coast Dream Machines Show, a popular annual attraction,
is headlined this year by an exact replica of the original Wright
Brothers Flyer (celebrating its 100th anniversary this year).
The show also features a beautifully restored World War II B-25 Mitchell
bomber, a P-47 Thunderbolt (one of the leading fighters from WW II)
and a stunning exhibit of automobiles of every style and era.
Flying in will be an array of showplanes including stylish homebuilts,
classics from the '40s and '50s, and a special display of carefully
restored warbirds.
Rounding out the show are tractor-pull competitions, a collection
of large and small gas engines and steam tractors, and amusements
for the kids. Food and live music also will be available.
The show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the airport located on Highway
1, about 20 miles south of San Francisco and 5 miles north of Highway
92. Admission is $5 for seniors (65 and older) and children ages 5
to 14. For everyone else, the charge is $15.

LIVE LIFE: The concern with war and terror has had a serious
effect on travel for pleasure. There is no problem keeping posted
on the events throughout the world, thanks to radio news programs,
television and the reports in newspapers and other publications.
Along with this information, travel agents have additional sources
of information on the world of pleasure travel, and it may be helpful
to take advantage of their knowledge and the alternative choices they
can present.
Travel agents belong to and work with international travel associations
that keep them posted on events, both good and bad - and, of course,
some of the in-between. One of their most valuable sources of information
is what they are told by their clients.
As for travel, this is said by a major travel company: "You either
live in fear or you live your life. And travel is part of living your
life."
WINNING WINES: Those who like to plan their trips well in advance
should note that this year, the gold medal winning wines at the Los
Angeles County Fair will be available for tasting by the public, Sept.
12 to Sept. 28. In addition, the gold medal winning olive oils will
be available for the public to test their tastes against those of
the judges.
CRUISE NEWS: Princess Cruises has announced that its Grand
Princess will sail in the Caribbean this summer. Its sister ship,

Park and the Grand Canyon Lodge at the north rim of Grand Canyon National
Park will open their 2003 seasons April 1 and May 10, respectively.
Both are historic lodges listed on the National Register of Historic
Places. Step-by-step guide service is available for groups at the
lodges. Some of the finest hiking and sightseeing activities anywhere
are accessible after a short drive into either park.
CLOSE TO HOME: The fine arts museums of San Francisco have
announced the acquisition of landmark works of art for the collections
of the DeYoung and the California Palace of the Legion of Honor. Artists
