Couple Exchanges Wedding Vows At Local Retirement Community

Bob Shaw and Betty Shanahan aren’t typical newlyweds. The couple, married Jan. 10 in Sacramento, are both in their 80s.

Shaw and Shanahan were married at River’s Edge Retirement Community in Sacramento, where they met. Both moved there after losing spouses to illness.

“Just like the best fairytale romances, they met, fell in love and were married,” River’s Edge spokeswoman Pam McDonald said.

The union marked the first wedding performed at the community, which opened in 1997 near the intersection of Howe Avenue and Fair Oaks Boulevard.
