Be Santa to a Senior – Home Instead Senior Care

Since
2004, Home Instead Senior Care has spread holiday cheer nationwide
to those who need it most – lonely or financially-challenged
seniors – through the Be a Santa to a Senior program.
Since Be a Santa to a Senior was launched, Home Instead Senior Care franchises
across the country have helped provide more than 930,000 gifts to nearly 570,000
seniors.
At the local level, the program is run through Home Instead’s individually-owned
offices. Home Instead creates partnerships with local nonprofit community organizations
to identify seniors who might otherwise not receive gifts this holiday season.
Home Instead then works with local businesses to help facilitate the purchase
and distribution of gifts by placing trees and ornaments within their various
locations. Each senior’s gift requests are written on a Be a Santa to a
Senior tree ornament.
Patrons of those businesses choose an ornament from the tree, purchase the gift
and return it and the ornament to an employee of that business by mid-December.
Volunteers then collect, wrap and deliver the gifts prior to Christmas.
Local partner programs include Carlton Plaza of Sacramento, Senior Nutrition
Services — Meals on Wheels, and Seniors First in Auburn.
Other partners in the Sacramento area include Loyalton of Folsom, Mercy McMahon
Terrace, Creekside Senior Living, Sunrise Assisted Living, Chateau at River’s
Edge, Auburn Ravine Terrace and The Oaks of Auburn.
Participating merchants include Gottschalk’s in Sacramento and Auburn.
