Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez has appointed Assemblywoman Patty Berg, a Humboldt County Democrat, to chair the Assembly Aging and Long-Term Care Committee.

Nunez, D-Los Angeles, made the announcement shortly after being sworn in to his leadership post Feb. 9.

Berg, 59, replaces Republican Assemblywoman Lynn Daucher, of Orange County, who will remain as a member of the committee which hears legislation relating to seniors.

Berg spent 19 years as executive director of the Area Agency on Aging in Humboldt and Del Norte counties before retiring in 1999. She was elected to the Assembly in 2002.
