RT Lowers Eligibility Age for Free Service

Spectrum staff

Sacramento Regional Transit has lowered the eligibility age for its Lifetime Pass, which entitles seniors to free bus and light rail service, from 80 years old to 75.

The change became effective July 1, the transit district’s directors announced.

RT estimates that 141,000 bus and light rail trips are taken each year by people between the ages of 75 and 80.

Currently, there are approximately 11,200 Lifetime Pass holders, and they use the passes for approximately 281,000 trips per year, RT reported.

Passes are available at the RT Photo Identification Center at 2820 N St. in Sacramento. There also will be opportunities to get the passes at local senior centers, RT reported.

To request a Lifetime Pass, call RT at (916) 321-BUSS or check the Web site www.sacrt.com. The TDD number for the hearing-impaired is (916) 483-HEAR.

In addition to the free service for riders over 75, RT offers a half-price discount for riders ages 62 to 74, and provides low-cost Paratransit service for many disabled and elderly riders."
