BenefitsCheckUp
is an online screening service designed to help people over the age
of 55 locate and enroll in benefit programs.
The service was developed and is maintained by the National Council on Aging
as part of its mission to improve the lives of older Americans. The service is
free, easy to use and confidential.
BenefitsCheckUp is the nation’s most comprehensive Web-based service that
locates benefit programs for seniors with limited income and resources. It includes
more than 1,550 public and private benefit programs from all 50 states and the
District of Columbia.
BenefitsCheckUp provides a solution to the widespread problem of the millions
of older Americans who are eligible for but not receiving benefits from existing
federal, state and local programs. It helps seniors find and enroll in programs
that help pay for prescription drugs, utility bills, meals, healthcare and other
needs.
The website can also help seniors find the best ways to reduce prescription drug
costs through locating the combination of prescription savings programs - both
public and private - that work best for the individual. Those with Medicare who
have limited income and resources can use BenefitsCheckUp to find and apply for
Medicare’s Extra Help program.
Since its founding in 2001, BenefitsCheckUp has helped 2,117,950 people find
over $6.2 billion worth of the annual benefits. In addition, it has helped people
locate employment, volunteer work, help, information and resources.
