Party: Green

1. What do you consider the most pressing issue facing California’s senior citizens?
Budget crisis and potential cuts in services. E.G. I make dentures, and there is talk of cutting adult Denti-Cal services.

2. Do you favor or oppose amending the rates of the following taxes:
Property tax
State income tax
Vehicle license fee
Gas tax

a,b & c For the extremely wealthy yes. I would propose at least
temporarily raising their taxes so seniors and others would not lose services.

Gas tax. In the short term no. I think if gas tax is raised it
should be voted on locally and done locally to pay for efficient intra-city transportaion. I'd rather take a train when possible than drive in congested city traffic any day.

3. Do you favor or oppose putting new restrictions on older drivers?
I favor passenger rail service so we can all take a break from driving. My view is their are lots of incompetent drivers out there. As Governor I would work with DMV to develop a plan whereby drivers who receive a certain number of points in a given period for traffic infractions would have to take a competency driving test to renew their license. The applicant would have to pay for the cost of the test as well. Hopefully that would help us all to pay more attention behind the wheel. Let's face it the automobile is about the most dangerous weapon there is.

4. When putting together the state budget for the next fiscal year, would you change current levels of funding for any of the following programs:
In-Home Supportive Services
Adult Protective Services
SSI/SSP benefits
Foster Grandparents Program
Brown Bag Program
Senior Companion Program
California Commission on Aging

I would have to review all programs line by line to determine their efficiency at providing services. I'm definitely not in favor of cutting vital services, but would be derelict of my duty as Chief Steward of the People's Money to not root out any waste, fraud or corruption.

5. If elected, how will you improve California for seniors and all other residents?
