Candidate: John J. “Jack” Hickey
Ballot Designation: Healthcare District Director
Party: Libertarian

1. What do you consider the most pressing issue facing California’s senior citizens?
Facing the wrath of following generations who bear the burden of the bondedness indebtedness and other encumbrances placed upon their future earnings during "our watch".

2. Do you favor or oppose amending the rates of the following taxes:
Property tax - NO!!
State income tax YES! - Eliminate it.
Vehicle license fee YES! - Reduce it to a level based upon each vehicles impact on the roadways.
Gas tax YES! Gas taxes should be related to motor vehicle related
infrastructure.

3. Do you favor or oppose putting new restrictions on older drivers?
NO! Insurance companies, unencumbered by State regulators, would do a fine job of culling incompetent drivers from our highways.

4. When putting together the state budget for the next fiscal year, would you change current levels of funding for any of the following programs:
In-Home Supportive Services
Adult Protective Services
SSI/SSP benefits
Foster Grandparents Program
Brown Bag Program
Senior Companion Program
California Commission on Aging

I find all of the above programs to be intrusions into the normal affairs of an otherwise compassionate citizenry. Thoreau said "That government is best which governs least". I would phase out these programs to allow volunteerism to fill the gap.

5. If elected, how will you improve California for seniors and all other residents?
I would reduce the size of our State government, dis-involve the State from excesses of the Federal government, thereby restoring individual and family responsibility.
