1. What do you consider the most pressing issue facing California's senior citizens?
The most pressing issue is assuring proper medical care and keeping the cost of living down. People on fixed incomes are vulnerable to cost of living increases, and I will keep them stabilized. I will veto any bill that imposes new costs to ALL residents, including seniors. The state gets enough of our money. The state needs to quit spending beyond their
means. We can't spend beyond our personal means, so we should expect the same from the leadership of California.

2. Do you favor or oppose amending the rates of the following taxes:
Property tax
State income tax
Vehicle license fee
Gas tax

I'm not sure what you mean by "amending." I'm NOT in favor of amending if it means raising taxes in any of these areas. But if amending means LOWERING taxes in this area, then I would say yes. I am for rolling back the recent increase of the vehicle license fee. In fact, it is the first thing I will change when I get into office.

3. Do you favor or oppose putting new restrictions on older drivers?

No, I think all drivers must meet the same requirements, regardless of age.

4. When putting together the state budget for the next fiscal year, would you change current levels of funding for any of the following programs:
In-Home Supportive Services
Adult Protective Services
SSI/SSP benefits
Foster Grandparents Program
Brown Bag Program
Senior Companion Program
California Commission on Aging

I know personally the great service all of the programs provide to the community. I was Mayor of a California town (Scotts Valley) and saw first hand how beneficial these programs were to everyone who used them. So, I would not cut any of these programs. They are very valuable to our community.

5. If elected, how will you improve California for seniors and all other residents?
The best thing that can be done for California and its residents is to get the business community rebuilt. The relationship between business and government should be a friendly one, not the current adversarial one that exists today. The hostile environment currently endorsed by too many politicians in our legislature and Governor's office, is driving businesses out of California. When the businesses leave they take with them jobs and revenue streams that fund the critical programs that mean so much to our quality of life. Without a thriving business community, there is no money to fund essential services. I will develop a friendly environment for them to function in.
