Extension Announces Classes for Seniors
The
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, part of the University of
California at Davis Extension, is offering special classes for adults
55
and older, beginning next month.
The spring classes feature fitness for seniors, strolls through the UCD Arboretum,
forensics and DNA, and more.
Some courses begin April 6, and others start in May.
A quarterly OLLI membership costs $135, and entitles a member to enroll in four
courses each quarter on a wide range of subjects. Annual memberships also are
available for $350.

Caregivers Invited to Free Workshop
Del Oro Caregiver Resource Center and the Area 4 Agency on Aging are
offering a free workshop for male caregivers Wednesday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.,
at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 2391 St. Mark’s Way, Sacramento.
The guest speaker is John Jeffery, a former minister who now leads workshops
in grief and loss. Topics include finding balance and keeping healthy while caregiving,
understanding family relationships, isolation, intimacy, finding support and
asking for help.
Seating is limited, and reservations are advised. Free in-home respite care is
available to family caregivers if advance notice is provided.

Seeks Artists for Open Exhibition
Northern California Arts Inc. is inviting artists to enter its 49th
annual Open International Exhibition, “Bold Expressions,” scheduled
for Sept. 28 through Oct. 17 at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center Galleries.
The exhibition is open to creators of original art, utilizing mixed media. No
photography, film or crafts are accepted.
Awards total $3,500, including $750 for Best of Show. The non-refundable entry
fee is $30 for one, two or three works. Entries, due by Aug. 2, are judged by
slides.

‘Run
Against Pain’ Benefit Set for April 24
The UC Davis Run Against Pain, a benefit to support the UCD Division
of Pain Medicine, is scheduled for April 24, beginning at the UCD Medical
Center, 45th and X streets, Sacramento.
Entrants may participate in a 10-kilometer or 5-kilometer run or walk, or a half-mile
run for children. The 10K and 5K events start at 8:30 a.m., children age 9 and
under start at 8:10 a.m. and children age 10-12 start at 8:20 a.m.
Advance registration fees, due by April 19, are $23 for adults and $15 for children.
Registration is $30 on race day, beginning at 7 a.m.
Entry forms are available at local Fleet Feet stores, and can be downloaded online
at www.ucdmc.ucdavis.edu/pain. Online registration closes midnight, April 21.

Seeks Volunteer Ombudsmen
Ombudsmen Services of Northern California, a project of Legal Services
of Northern California, is seeking volunteers to help safeguard the rights
of residents in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
Free training sessions for new volunteers begin in April. Certified ombudsmen
are compensated for mileage.

‘Show
and Sell’ Auto Event Returns to Towe Museum
The Towe Auto Museum announced it is bringing back its Show and Sell
event on the first Saturday of each month in the museum parking lot, 2200
Front St., Sacramento.
Sellers have the opportunity to park their cars, RVs or boats and allow buyers
to view them, ask questions, and possibly make a purchase. An attendant will
assist buyers, but no salesmen are involved.
The Towe Auto Museum does not conduct the sale of the vehicle, but provides the
venue for the buyer and seller to discuss the transaction. Space rental is $15
per vehicle.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. The sale is open to the public from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m.

Classes Begin April 1 At Crocker Art Museum
The Crocker Art Museum has begun registering students for this year’s
Crocker Art Masters summer program, which offers 11 sessions beginning April
1.
Each session is designed for a particular age group and is taught by a local
artist. Students will receive formal lessons in color, line, texture and variety
of media.
Session fees range from $75 to $150 per student and include materials, art services
